Job Description

Lead the design and development of a family of highly successful consumer electronics and communication chip products. As VP Engineering for Silicon Valley-based Key ASIC, you will be a critical member of the executive team. Reporting to the CTO, you will provide the Design Engineering teams assisting in the leadership of design projects and product design. We are a dynamic, fast-growing company with a highly integrated business network and resource, and you will help us define and implement new opportunities in a fast growing market.

Your proven management skills will enable you to lead and motivate a decent multi-disciplined team of IC design engineers. You will direct activities to design IC chip products, modify existing designs, and develop testing designs and procedures using your hands-on engineering experience, combined with familiarity with all aspects of IC product design and development. Your track record of on-time, on-budget chip design delivery will set the stage for your success in our fast-paced deadline-driven environment. It is also essential that you are a team player, dedicated to team goals and to contributing significantly towards the success of a budding business.

The successful candidate will be a senior member of the Product Development and Technology (Engineering) team at Key ASIC, Inc. The candidate is characterized by a high degree of professionalism, independence, reliability, and maturity. This person will be able to work effectively with minimal supervision and will function as the day-to-day manager of work group of highly skilled ID designers. The position is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of assigned technical projects, on time, within budget, and with high, measurable quality. The VP of Engineering manages several lead engineers and managers, and work closely with management (Chief Technology Officer), and with other departments to ensure smooth delivery and consideration of both short-term and long-term perspectives. Additionally, this position will determine and evaluate technical and methodological approaches “in the large.” In addition to possessing technical management competence and experience, the successful candidate will also be a highly skilled developer, well versed in the technologies used at Key ASIC, Inc.

Essential Job Functions:
• Allocates resources, in collaboration with Program Management and Lead Engineers and management, to ensure adequate staffing of technical projects
• Supervises and mentors lead engineers on a day-to-day basis
• “Owns” and manages to the deadlines and deliverables established for projects under his/her management
• Establishes and ensures adherence to agreed-upon best practices in technology and methodology,
• Establishes and ensures adherence to agreed-upon best engineering resource practices, including staffing and personnel considerations, career pathing and planning, training, employee reviews, etc.
• Juggles multiple projects, both large and small, simultaneously.
• Proven ability to see the big picture and assist in the juggling of conflicting priorities
• Works with management to evaluate project requirements and objectives, identify and analyze preliminary business needs, budget considerations, time and resource estimates and help define the project scope and objectives.
• Must have deep technical knowledge of and experience in design engineering, methodology and operations required with a proven background of working with technical teams, to define projects, create supporting documentation and drive a project to completion.
• Serves as a “thought leader” within Engineering.                                                                  • Provide mentorship to team members                                                                                • Proactively identify and resolve resource conflict and set priorities for multiple projects
• Effectively identifies, communicates, and manages change requests, and generates creative solutions to other project problems.
• Works closely and collaboratively with Program Management to ensure accurate knowledge and communication of project status

Background
• At least 20 years of IC design and development experience; thorough design knowledge and experience is require. System and application design background will be plus.
• Experience managing IC development projects to successful completion, including resource allocation and tracking, keep milestones and deliverables, and final chip debugging and testing.

• At least 10+ years experience in managing group of highly capable IC design engineers in a challenging, fast-paced environment. Needs to be able to effectively manage multiple sites.
• Thorough familiarity with entire design methodology and design flows.
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, time/resource management skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills and experience with state-of-the art design tools.

• Advanced degree engineering/science degrees preferred
